A TRIBUTE TO THE GAME

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw first visited Thornburgh in 2006. They were immediately drawn in by the natural undulation of the land and stunning mountain vistas. Coore & Crenshaw returned to the land many times over the next few years to find, and route the Tribute course within the native terrain like only they can do. Under the watchful eyes of the master golf course design-and-build team of Whitman, Axland and Cutten the Tribute Championship Golf Course is being laid into that native routing.

Whitman, Axland and Cutten have over 90-years’ experience shaping courses like Sand Hills, Friar’s Head, and Cabot Cliffs. They have earned a reputation for world-class golf with layouts like Wild Horse, Sagebrush, and Cabot Links, ranked in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World. The one thing that rings true with each Whitman, Axland and Cutten course is their strict attention to detail and sincere passion for the game. The minimalist design of the Tribute Course preserves the natural feel and experience of the land with as small a footprint as possible. With play expected to start in 2023, Tribute will likely become one of the most heralded golf courses in the country. Only Thornburgh owners have the exclusive opportunity to upgrade to full golf membership.

The Tribute Golf Clubhouse will sit on a volcanic outcropping surrounded by ancient juniper trees with commanding views out over the 1st, 9th, 10th, and 18th holes of the golf course and up to the Cascade Mountain Range to the West. Enjoy a superlative meal in the Clubhouse Grill with seating by the open fire, or outside on one of the flagstone patios. Catch a game of cards with your friends, or when the sun sets, pull up a chair to the fire pit and watch the night sky come to life.

The extensive practice and training facilities offer year-round practice to nurture the putting, short game, and driving skills for players of all abilities and ages. You can hone your skills on the Tribute Short Course; work on your long game at the driving range.

A GREAT STORY TOLD

Great courses challenge the best players, yet allow for the beginner. As such, a reasonable variety of tees should be offered on each hole so that players can use the tees commensurate with their ability. Sadly, it is common for the gap between different sets of tees to be so big that it almost forces players to play the course at a length that is too long for their ability. With most holes having either five or six sets of teeing areas, The Tribute Club aims to allow every golfer to experience the same incredible shots.

Furthermore, combination tees on the scorecard will allow players to use two or more sets of tees to add variety to the course’s setup, resulting in even more flexibility in the total yardage played. The best golf courses resemble well-told stories. They go through sequences of tension and release, where drama is created by unique highs and lows. While variety is key, it is important that everyone experience the same great story.
